Exploration and innovating are both intrinsic to human nature. Directed inward to study the human condition, or outward to investigate an uncharted land, the yearning for new ways and new space has moved our minds for centuries. Welcoming you to a realm of belonging multi-instrumentalist Juha-Matti Rautiainen with vocalist Helinä Hoo craft a well-shaped story with uncommon freedom. As shadow builders exploring dimensionless parameters of sound this duo reaches heights known to neither on their own. From the first note of their Anemoia (38:33) we are enchanted. Conferring beauty onto that which the modern pace of life has taught us to ignore, the seven tracks invite us to listen - as a personal and mysterious response to the world. With well placed and played piano, field recordings, electric bass guitar, synthesizers, plus other electronic devices this duo deepens the sonic space around us. In metal strings bending and breathing into cavernous reverberation, alongside hovering clouds of resplendent wordless vocals, robust themes emerge out of such lushly appointed details. Potent rhythms propel the rushing currents of soft, cycling sequencers as Rautiainen's instrumental fantasy rises on nebulous melodies and transposing harmonies. Yet, it is the soft breeze of Hoo's voice shaping and guiding the mental imagery conjured up by Anemoia. From the deep-toned and subterranean to the radiant and bright this engaging fantasy ebbs and flows in gentle arcs - stirring our emotions and lifting our dreams. There is a light inside all of us that is begging to burn brighter. The personality and presence found throughout this work confirms this wish - as the music seems quite lit from within.
