The work of Erik Wøllo takes place in a realm where magical things may still be found. Transforming thought, mood and atmosphere into music his Snow Tides (55:42) flows surely above frozen secrets. From out of a landscape of misty mystery mountains, hibernal meanings and Wintry spirit the 10 compositions traverse different districts of our inner terrain. With clarity and simplicity luminous synthesizer chords and affecting electric guitar leads swell and sound out Wøllo's creative voice. The power of Snow Tides resides in its finest subtleties. Sharing its stories with cool skill this release may hint in a whisper of frost, but then commands with the certainty of a blinding blizzard. As textures thicken and we become enthralled in the revealing depths of lonely boreal zones, cold cloudless chords rise, hold and penetrate the listening space. When crystalline electronic emanations give way to propelling sequencer grooves, the mind settles on the optimism of forward motion - and the assurance that Spring will follow even the harshest of Winters. So, while stilled in the long cold of the aphelion season, allow your soul to swoon slowly - and you too may hear the snow falling faintly through the Universe.
